Pupil wins art award for best A level work

College pupil and talented artist, Joseph McKenzie, from Regency Close, has been awarded the 2005 Art for the Young award for his outstanding A Level work by the Bishop’s Stortford Decorative and Fine Arts Society. Society Vice-chairman, Geoff Davidson, said, “Our judges were impressed initially by Joe’s ability to draw and then by how his artistic creativity shaped his projects using a variety of mediums, including ice and acrylic sculptures, all clearly presented with his obvious gift for layout and, in particular, his photographic skills.”

To add to this accolade, the eighteen year old was delighted to hear in August that he was one of two College Sixth Formers to score 300 out of 300 in their Art A level examinations. Seventeen year old, Lucy Stapleton from Church Langley, also scored top marks for her AS level artwork. Head of Art, Richard Honey, said, “This is an incredible achievement and a reflection of the considerable talent within the College Art Department. The fact that Joe did not take GCSE Art makes his particular successes all the more impressive.” Joe is set to continue his studies at Central School of Art and Design. He will receive a cheque for £150 and the College will receive £100.
