Pupils showcase new play at London Theatre

Talented young actors at the College performed a brand new play on 20th April at the Hampstead Theatre in London as part of National Connections, one of the world’s largest celebrations of youth theatre.

The GCSE drama students gave an impressive preview performance of the play, Ruckus in the Garden, by David Farr, to family and friends just before Easter. The National Connections assessor reported that the story rattled along with plenty of energy and vibrancy with quite a few comic turns, which was in the spirit of the piece.

“The group seemed very accomplished and assured and appeared to relish taking part in the play. There was a good team spirit amongst them and they made the most of the facilities and expertise they had.”

The College Director of Drama, Richard Norman, took part in a training weekend which launched National Connections 2007. He met and took part in workshops with David Farr, whose other plays include The Nativity performed at the Young Vic. “I wanted to give the students the experience of performing in a professional theatre and what a pleasure it was to watch them take to the stage with passion and energy. The response from the audience was very positive and the students felt they had shared something very special.”
