The annual competition followed hours of work by the L5 House teams, while they cobbled together a machine designed to propel balloons full of water into a bucket 5 metres away. The winning team was the one who got most water into the bucket. Naturally, in that sort of situation, very few people (audience or participants) remained dry at the end! The prize was £100 to spend on the Common Room of the winning House.
The variety of contraptions was amazing: Young House used a skateboard ramp; School used guttering and bungie cords;
Alliott, Collett and RPH used catapults; Benson used a crossbow decorated with beads; Hayward had a strange contraption decorated with a St. George’s flag, and they used two lads piled on top of each other to hold it steady! Sutton had built an brilliant pulley system, with traffic cones and signs integrated cleverly. Sutton ended up winning the competition, as you can see below. So, many congratulations to them, and I am sure they will enjoy choosing what to buy with their £100.
The top four teams were:
1. Sutton House - 6.88 litres of water collected
2. RPH - 6.62 litres
3. School House - 6.60 litres
4. Alliott 1.78 litres
