U16 Netball District Champions

On a freezing cold Thursday afternoon the U16 team stormed to an overwhelming victory to take the Under 16 District Trophy.  I witnessed some of the finest netball I have ever seen as the team went from strength to strength winning all of their 1st round matches very convincingly beating St. Marys  5-2, Mountfitchet 12-0, Saffron Walden 4-3 and Helena Romanes 14-0. They then met Herts & Essex in the semi-final and in an exciting end to end match they won 6-4. They were looking invincible as they went into the final against St Marys, having already beaten them in the earlier round the girls were quietly confident. They played the most amazing netball with their slick accurate passing, superb shooting and solid defence to win the match by a convincing 10 goals to 3. District Champions! wow what a thrill and so thoroughly deserved. It is hard to mention anyone in particular as the whole team worked so hard and so well together, I was so very proud of them all.

The team consisted of Tonica Hunter, Lori Campbell, Charlotte Croker, Emily Woodhouse, Aimee Swayne, Helen Trantum (Captain) and Georgia Swayne. A special mention should go to our reserve, Emily Hatchett who supported the team throughout the freezing afternoon.

On behalf of the girls I would like to thank our avid supporters who stood in the freezing cold throughout the afternoon: Mrs Campbell and Mrs Trantum, and Mr & Mrs Croker for their support and all the refreshments they brought for the girls. Thank you all!             JW
