In the historic setting of the Tower of London, College Junior School pupil, Selim Munir, was presented on Tuesday with a special award in recognition of the contribution he has made to UK boarding school life as an international boarder.
The International Boarder of the Year Awards, now in its third year, saw 36 different nationalities represented in over 150 entries from 68 schools.

Thirteen year old Selim from Turkey, who was nominated by his school for the Year 8 and under age
category, had to write 500 words on “Why I like boarding in the UK” whilst his boarding housemaster, Mr Richard Clough had
to submit an endorsement, a record of achievement and a list of extra-curricular activities. “Selim only started with
us in September but has thrown himself into school life with huge enthusiasm, despite the fact that English is not his first
language.” said his boarding housemaster, Mr Richard Clough. |

A panel of former heads judged the entries and selected three finalists from each age category to attend the Oscar-like award ceremony.
Popular broadcaster and author, Libby Purvis, announced the overall winner in each age category and presented the awards. Whilst not the overall winner of his age category in this prestigious competition, Selim was thrilled to receive his runners up award: “I was very happy to be chosen as a finalist and really enjoyed the day. We were given a tour around the Tower of London which I had never been to before. I especially liked seeing the Crown jewels.”
“We are delighted that the way Selim has embraced his new life here at Bishop's Stortford College has been recognised nationally. The diversity of backgrounds and nationalities at the College helps to instil a global outlook in all our pupils which is such an important part of preparing young people for their adult lives,” said Junior School Headmaster Mr John
Greathead.
