The Year of the Pig began on 18th February, and was celebrated on 23rd by our International students, with a tremendous party.
The International Committee had worked for weeks organising this event, which included superb food and most enjoyable games. The Committee
seen below, comprised:
Edouard Gassier (France), Alex Kirchhoff (Germany), Izumi Kirokawa (Japan), Bohuslav Romanenko (Ukraine), Edgar Dubrovskis (Latvia) and some of our Hong Kong students (Edward Chan, Venus Tsang and Felix Tsang and the Chair, Jackin Lam). Three lads had spent about six hours in the kitchen cooking up a great meal of spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken, prawn balls and many more dishes. It was a superb effort and Gary Law was so impressed that he has already offered them a job any time they need one! Our grateful
thanks to Dennis Cheung, Edward Chan and Wilson Lee for their culinary achievements.

The games, which followed the meal were varied and very amusing indeed. In one, a series of pictures of small parts of teachers were projected onto a screen and the table teams were asked to identify these teachers; included in these were Ben Fearnley’s hairy jaw, Mike Tomky’s eye, Bob Kisby’s frown, Helen Sheehan’s eyebrow and Iago Nunez’
smile. Then each table was
given an adjective, they had to chose someone to go up and
participate in a mini-competition. For example: Highest. This
turned out to be the Highest Voice, so all table representatives
squeaked as high as they could into a microphone.

Best Sucker: well, only George Smith could suck over 40
peas through a straw from one cup into another in one minute!
For the Most Flexible, there was a limbo competition, with
a terrific competition won by Wilson Lee (seen on the right). Second
was Yasmin Oukhellou, who was also really brilliant at this activity
– both of them made me groan in agony just watching them!

The finale was a dance, with each table organising a dance in 15 minutes, to last for one minute. The music was taken from a variety of countries (Mongolian, French, Japanese etc). Two sights for sore eyes were Eddie Tam’s boogie, and one of the Heads of School (Praveen) disco dancing in a most unbecoming manner! Both added greatly to the amusement of the evening. The winning table was set to a Serbian song, and the dancers moved in a staccato fashion rather like marionettes, which was most effective and their win was well deserved.
This was indeed a magical evening, and thanks to everyone for making it such fun.
