Professor Gervase Phinn, former schools inspector turned writer and broadcaster, joined Pre-Prep pupils and staff at
the College on Friday 23rd September to celebrate the opening of their new home. Probably best known for his three top selling autobiographical novels including
'Head Over Heels in the Dales', Professor Phinn spent the day in class with the children before officially opening the impressive £1.5 million, purpose-built accommodation which has six classrooms, a dedicated IT suite, a library, music room and assembly hall. “It’s been a very memorable day because everything in the school is so bright and colourful and everyone so cheerful and welcoming,” said the former English teacher. “There was such a buzz all day.”

The College Pre-Prep Department first opened its doors ten years ago, reaching capacity within two years with 120 girls and boys. “Our aim from the start has been to provide a broad and balanced curriculum in an exciting, happy and friendly environment and our new home will certainly help us to continue to do this to the highest standards,” said Head of Pre-Prep, Alison Cullum. “The children love their new spacious surroundings. They are full of plans to develop the gardens and grounds as an outside classroom.”
A drop off and collection point has also been constructed, together with a link footpath, to help alleviate some of the traffic congestion experienced on the Great Hadham Road.
“We’ve had a truly inspiring time with Professor Phinn with lots of fun and laughter,” said Mrs Cullum. The day finished with a lively opening ceremony in which the children took centre stage, singing songs and performing to an appreciative audience of parents, staff, governors and guests.
