Two prestigious scholarships have been awarded to Sixth Formers at
the College, the York University Dangoor Scholarship and an Army Sixth Form Scholarship.
Seventeen year old, Ellie Luther from Stansted won the special York University award to study English Literature and Linguistics in September based on her written application, tutor’s reference and predicted grades. “I’m the first person in my family to go to university and when I saw the information about the scholarship I thought, why not have a go? I’ve nothing to lose,” she explained. With her extra responsibilities as Head of House, tennis captain and member of the first hockey and netball squads, Ellie has had a busy year but is now concentrating on her final preparations for her A-Level examinations in English Literature, Art and Media Studies.

Daniel Wakerley, also seventeen and from Clavering in Essex, was delighted to be awarded an Army Sixth Form Scholarship after a gruelling selection process. Having attended a formal interview, Daniel was short-listed to attend a twenty-four hour Final Board involving two intensive interviews and a series of mentally and physically demanding exercises designed to test a candidate’s ability to solve problems, think strategically, work as a team, lead and cope under pressure. “Awesome!” was how Daniel summed up the experience. “It was fantastic to meet such a wide range of people from all over the country,” he said. “Only a third of those short listed for the Final Board are awarded a Sixth Form Scholarship so I’m really pleased to have been successful.”
Daniel is currently in his first year of the Sixth Form at Bishop's Stortford College studying History, French, German and English.
Head of Sixth Form, Tim Borton paid tribute to the two scholars, “I am delighted that the talents and enthusiasm of our Sixth Formers are being recognised in this way. What exciting futures lie ahead for these two, which they richly deserve.”
