World-renowned scientist and founder of the Brunel Institute for Bioengineering, Professor Heinz Wolff encouraged his audience of pupils, staff and parents at the College to nurture the basic human instinct of finding out how things work and to use the knowledge gained to create a better, more caring society.

Guest speaker at the College’s annual speech day, Professor Wolff presented over 85 prizes to pupils including twenty one special awards to recognise academic excellence, achievements in sport, drama, music, art, the College Activity Programme and community service and, also, to applaud those students who have made the most of their time at Bishop's Stortford College.

Crediting his science teachers as the greatest influence on his fifty year career, the professor spoke of his passion for enthusing young people about science and technology through education.

Headmaster, John Trotman, paid tribute to the resourceful, determined attitude of Storfordian pupils. “So many of our pupils leave us as wholehearted, committed, serious-minded characters who want to give something back … and who have the special quality of being able to turn dreams into reality; to make things happen.”

Continuing on a similar theme, Joint Heads of School, Liz Emmett and Toby Gadd, urged their fellow pupils to use the education and opportunities given to them to make the world a better place, to keep thinking for themselves and to carry on being prepared to have a go.
